GE front-load washer

01

Loading the washer

  1. Check all pockets before loading — coins, tissues, and small objects can damage the drum or clog the drain pump.
  2. Sort clothes by color and fabric weight when practical. Avoid washing heavy items like jeans or towels together with delicates.
  3. Load clothes loosely into the drum. Leave enough space for items to tumble freely — fill to about three-quarters full at most. Overfilling leads to poor cleaning and excessive vibration.
  4. Add detergent to the dispenser drawer before starting (see section 02).
  5. Close the door firmly.

02

Detergent

IMPORTANT

This is a front-load washer — it requires HE (High Efficiency) detergent only. Look for the HE symbol on the packaging. Regular detergent produces far too many suds for a front-loader, which prevents proper rinsing and can cause error codes and odor buildup over time.

Adding detergent

  1. Pull out the detergent dispenser drawer, located at the upper left of the machine.
  2. Add HE detergent to the main wash compartment — the large compartment typically marked with a II or a wash basin symbol. Use the amount shown on the detergent packaging for the load size.
  3. If you would like fabric softener, add it to the softener compartment — the smaller compartment marked with a flower symbol. Do not overfill past the max line.
  4. Push the drawer closed before starting.

HE detergent is available in the laundry area. Do not add detergent directly into the drum.

Selecting a cycle

Turn the cycle selector knob to choose a cycle, then press Start. A typical cycle takes 45 to 75 minutes depending on the cycle and load size.

Normal

Best for everyday mixed loads — cottons, casual wear, and most household items. A reliable default for most laundry.

Heavy Duty

For heavily soiled items, work clothes, and thick cotton fabrics. Uses more water and a longer agitation time.

Delicates

Low agitation and lower spin speed for lightweight fabrics, lingerie, and items labeled "gentle cycle."

Colors

Optimized to reduce fading on colored garments. Uses cooler water and a gentler motion.

Whites

Hotter water for white cotton items. Do not use for colored items — the higher temperature can cause fading or shrinkage.

Quick Wash

A shorter cycle for lightly soiled items only. Not suitable for heavily soiled loads or large items.

Self Clean

Cleans the drum interior. Run this with no clothes and no detergent periodically — especially if you notice any musty smell. The machine will prompt you when a cleaning cycle is recommended.

04

After every wash

HOUSE RULE

Leave the washer door open after every use — even just a few inches is enough.

Front-load washers trap moisture inside the door seal and drum. A closed door between uses creates a warm, damp environment where mildew grows quickly — producing a musty odor that is very difficult to fully eliminate once it develops. Leaving the door ajar allows the interior to dry out completely.

  • Transfer clothes to the dryer promptly. Wet laundry left sitting in a closed drum will develop odor within a few hours.
  • Pull the detergent dispenser drawer out slightly after use so it can air dry as well.
  • Leave the washer door open until your next load.

Troubleshooting

Door will not open

The door locks automatically during the wash cycle and for a brief period after it ends. Wait a moment for the lock to release on its own — do not force the door. If it remains locked for more than a few minutes after the cycle ends, contact us.

Excessive vibration during spin

The load is likely unbalanced — heavy items have shifted to one side. Allow the cycle to complete, redistribute clothes evenly inside the drum, and run a Spin Only cycle. Avoid mixing very heavy items (towels, jeans) with very light ones in the same load.

Suds overflowing or a suds error code

Non-HE detergent was used, or too much HE detergent was added. Run a Rinse + Spin cycle with no detergent to clear the excess suds. Use less detergent in future loads — HE detergent is highly concentrated and a small amount is usually sufficient.

Musty smell from the drum

The door was closed between uses. Run a Self Clean cycle and from now on leave the door open after every wash. Pulling the dispenser drawer out also helps.

Error code on display

Press and hold the Stop or Cancel button to clear the display, then try again. If the error returns, note the code and contact us — we can reference the manual for that specific code.
