Pickup schedule

GUEST RESPONSIBILITY

Trash is collected every Tuesday. Cans must be placed at the curb by Monday evening.Pickup may begin very early Tuesday morning — cans must be at the curb before you go to bed Monday night.

If your stay includes a Monday night, please place the cans at the curb before going to bed. If you are checking out on a Monday or Tuesday, please put the cans out before you leave — even if it is early in the morning.

After pickup, bring the empty cans back from the curb and return them to their storage location. Do not leave them at the curb overnight after collection.

02

The two cans

There are two outdoor trash cans. They are not equal — please use them in order.

Large can — use this one first

The large can is the primary can. All household trash should go here first. Fill it as fully as needed before using the second can. Both cans go to the curb on Tuesday if they have anything in them.

Small can — overflow only

The small can is for overflow if the large can reaches capacity. The most common reason it contains anything when you arrive is that a previous guest did not place the cans at the curb on trash day, leaving them full and reducing the available capacity for your stay. If the small can is already partially full when you check in and you are concerned about space, please let us know.

If both cans are full before the next pickup day — which would be unusual — please contact us and we will arrange for additional disposal.

03

Placing the cans at the curb

  1. Make sure the lid on each can is fully closed before moving it.
  2. Both cans are on wheels — roll them down the driveway to the curb.
  3. Place the cans at the edge of the curb, a few feet apart, with the handles facing the house so the truck can access the lids.
  4. Do not block the mailbox or place cans in a position that would obstruct traffic.

The curb deadline is Monday evening. Pickup trucks in this area often run very early — waiting until Tuesday morning risks missing the collection entirely.

04

Trash bags and indoor bins

Always bag your trash

Please make sure all trash is in a bag before placing it in the outdoor cans. Loose items in the cans attract insects and animals and make the cans much harder to clean. Tie bags closed before bringing them outside.

Replacement bags

Replacement trash bags are stored under the kitchen sink. If you run low, please let us know.

Indoor bins

Indoor trash bins are provided throughout the home — in the kitchen, bathrooms, and common areas. When indoor bins are full, transfer the bag to the large outdoor can and replace the liner. Please do not let indoor bins overflow between outdoor trips.

Bathroom bins

The bathroom trash bins are there for a reason — please use them for wipes, cotton products, and any non-toilet-paper items rather than flushing. See the septic guide for full details.

A few practical notes

Keep lids closed

Keep the lids on the outdoor cans closed between pickups. Open cans attract pests — particularly in Florida's warm climate — and can fill with rain water. If a lid is damaged or does not close properly, please let us know.

Grease and food waste

Do not put liquid cooking oil or grease directly into the trash bag — it leaks and makes a mess of the can. Let it cool and solidify first, or soak it up with paper towels before discarding. Coffee grounds, food scraps, and kitchen waste all go in the trash bag rather than down the drain. See the septic guide for why this matters.

Large or bulky items

The regular pickup service does not collect large or bulky items such as furniture, appliances, or electronics. If you have something that does not fit in the cans, please contact us before leaving it outside — we will arrange proper disposal.
